Deleting old disk structure files

After reinstalling XP and recovering the files that I required I have to now
delete the old system files folder, which is in 'My Programs'.

I have tried deleting the folder normally but get the access denied message.
I have tried deleting the folder in safe mode logged on as the administrator
but still get the access denied message.
I have tried deleting the folder from DOS (with explorer not running) and
still get the access denied message.
I have tried delting with the unlocker application but this also does not
work....

I have now run out of ideas and urgently need the space!

Can someone please give me instructions on how to delete the old system
files and recover the space?
