Deleting $NtUninstall....?

Guest

Hi all,

I've got 15+ directories all names that begin
with "$NtUninstall" followed by a string of letters and
numbers.
They are located in the C:\WINDOWS directory and are
hidden and read only directories.

Can I delete them?

Thanks

Toney

Hi Toney,

Those $NtUninstall folders are created when you install a Microsoft Service
Pack, a hot fix, or certain security updates. You may leave them there
unless you need hard drive space.

Hi Toney,

They are the uninstall information for various hotfixes (updates from the
WindowsUpdate site) you've installed. You can safely delete then as long as
you do not wish to uninstall any of the updates.

You can also use a small utility I've written that automates this task for
you, it also correctly removes the Add/Remove Programs entries, so that
Windows Update will not prompt you to install a hotfix that's already been
installed. See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Remove Hotfix Backup
Files.
