Deleting launch reminder

Ken Knecht

I just bought a new computer which contains NAV. NAV keeps requesting I
launch it each time I start the system. I don't want to use NAV. How can I
get rid of this annoying reminder?

TIA

There are many ways depending upon your OS. If you don't want to use NAV
then uninstall it. If you want to keep it for manual scans then check
options for a way to silence it. If that doesn't work then you can use
MSCONFIG to remove all instance to NAV. If W2K then go to Services under
Computer Management and change service type to Manual or Disable for NAV
services.

Uninstall NAV. However that turn out to be non-trivial sometimes (bit
like uninstalling your left kidney).

NAV will uninstall just fine if you turn off all NAV services (services.msc),
and stop all autostarting NAV programs (edit registry or use hijackthis).

John,

I can just see Joe Average trying to figure out what the hell he's suppose
to do with those instructions.

However, if you intended that reply to be "tongue in cheek" then it was
rather amusing.

Yeah. I know. I never did get it off another machine once launched. The
firewall and update still run even after uninstalling it. NAV seems to be
worse than a virus. That's why I won't launch it on this machine.

I am not sure how much simpler I could make it without getting into the
keystrokes. HiJackThis is the simplest and easiest way to stop auto starting
programs if a person is uneasy with editing the registry. NAV programs are
easily distinguishable by name.

To stop a service, you simply run <services.msc> and you stop all services that
have anything to do with NAV (again distinguishable by name). It couldn't get
much simpler. You don't even have to disable the service; just stop it.

To stop a service hold down the window key and press "R" enter
services.msc click run :)
