Deleting footer on first page only?

I'm working with a Microsoft newsletter template, which has footers set up on
all pages. That's fine, except having a footer on the front page that says
that "page 1" is stupid and unnecessary. I want to delete the footer from the
front page, but keep it on all the other pages. I tried making a section
break, but it didn't seem to fix the problem. If I delete the footer from
page one, it gets deleted from all the other pages (there are 4 pages total
in my newsletter).

Suggestions on how to fix this? It's not a huge problem, but I'm a stickler
on these sort of silly things.

Thanks.

Hello PHO,
if you also click on Insert -> Page Numbers, you can choose the option of
either having the number on page 1 or not. If you click the 'format' button
at the bottom left corner, you can choose on which page the numbering should
start.
I hope this helps.

That works for page numbers but doesn't help for footers in general. We also
generally don't advise using Insert | Page Numbers for anything more than
very simple, throwaway documents; using the Insert Page Number button on the
Header and Footer toolbar (which doesn't put the page number in a frame) is
more satisfactory. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm for one
byproduct of using Insert | Page Numbers.
