everytime i try to delete a particular file from my flash drive it gives me
an error "directory not empty" how do i remedy this, thanks

Possibly because there are files in a sub-directory which must
be deleted first before the main file can be deleted. This
message will also display if you opened or read any of those
files before trying to delete.

I've had this happen many times. No big deal. Usually if I open
the Windows Task Manager and stop process of Explorer and then
re-start Explorer (Run: Explorer). I then have no problem
deleting the problem
file(s).

Or use Unlocker: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Is erasing the flash drive completely an option? Perhaps copying all the
other files to another flash drive first?

With the flash drive in a USB port:

Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management. Right click on
the letter for the flash drive and Format it. This will erase everything on
the flash drive.
