deleting files burnt to cd

I am working on XP Home. Sometimes when I have just burnt some files onto cd (usually illustrator files), some of the files stay in the 'ready to write to cd area' and not onto the actual cd area. Although the files have actually writen to the cd - I can't delete them, so they are in the write area for when I need to write another cd
When I try and delete the files it comes up with an error message saying that the file cannot be deleted as it is being used by another program or person. (Even though I have no other programs open) ??? Please help..

Thanks.

I would do a reboot and upon boot up try to delete them. If not reboot and
bring up in safe mode by pecking f8 key before the xp screen. Now try to
delete them form safe mode.
