Deleting Duplicate personal folders

In my navigation pane, I have two "personal folders". One has a house icon,
the other has a box with folders icon. Everything within these two folders is
exactly the same. If I delete an item from one of the personal folders, it is
also deleted from the other one. It seems that any items I save are going
into both personal folders.

I have read the following help article:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011170471033.aspx . When I
follow the directions to click on properties for personal folder > advanced,
I get a message which reads "the operation failed. An object could not be
found"

How do I remove the duplicate? Which one do I remove? How did I come to have
two in the first place?

Please let me know if I need to provide additional information. Thank you
for your assistance.

You should be able to right click on the second folder and chose Close--not
delete. If one doesn't work, close the other one. You can close the duplicate
folder, but not the main folder.

The close command is grayed out on both of my Personal folders so I can't
close either one.
