deleting double horizontal lines

When I type in the "equal" sign, Word generates a double horizontal line.
Very nice.

But when I try to delete that double horizontal line, I find that I can't.
I have tried Borders and Shading, Tables... Nothing works. I'd appreciate
some help!

Thanks.

It's changed into a paragraph border -- in the paragraph *above* the line --
by AutoFormat. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CantGetRidOfLine.htm
for cause and cure.
