deleting dll files

Patrick

hello,

I have windows 2000 professional, int exp 6. I dont
have microsoft execel on my computer, but would like to
download a free version of it. Here's my situation, I
have this run-time error 53 (file can't be found, 'sex').
So I go to search for the file, so I can fix it. Then
these files come up in the search results all
in "C:\winnt\system32": adsmsext, msexch40, msexcl40,
psexec. They are all 'dll' files. I try to delete them
and they pop back up in a matter of seconds. do I need
them and if not, how in the world do I get rid of them?

thanks in advance

There's no such thing as a free download of Microsoft Excel. There are
undoubtedly pirated copies available somewhere, but that's THEFT.

Why on earth are you trying to delete those DLLs? Their reappearance is
the result of Windows File Protection doing its job -- protecting you
against the consequences of foolish behavior. In general, you should not
delete DLLs directly, but only as part of an uninstall of an application
or optional component.

The run-time error is most likely related to some malicious program that's
gotten itself installed on your system. I'd begin by examining your
system for spyware. Directions for doing so are posted to this group
several times every day.

First stop trying to delete operating system files. (system file
protection is putting them back) Next there is not a "free" version of
microsoft Excel.
