Deleting certain files...

K

Kolja

I want to apologize for posting this question again, but
nobody has been able to tell me "how exactly" to delete a
certain folder from my computer (including the link
several people have sent me to).

I am attempting to delete the History folder and index.dat
(XP). I have already viewed and read (repeatedly scowered
is more like) http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm.

These are the directions that link offers to delete that
folder.

"Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username>
folder.
(or log on as another user that has Administrator
privileges) and reboot.
Example: "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\HISTORY"

That's it.

This tells me nothing about "how" to delete the file in
question. As for logging in as an Administrator, I log
into an account with Administrator privileges every time I
boot up my computer up (because I am the one and only user
of this computer with Administrator privileges).

Please, can somebody help me with this? And by help, I
would very much appreciate a "walkthrough" like I'm a 6
year old.

Thank you.

Kolja,
Well let's see if I can walk you thru this ........
First log on as Administrator, if you don't see that account when
you log on ..... hit "Ctrl-Alt-Del" twice at the Welcome screen

Enter the required password for the Administrator, if you don't know
the password or forgot, create a new user via the Control Panel,
User Accounts (don't make this a "Limited User"), and reboot

Once logged in open Windows Explorer to the desired folder.
[Example]
"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files"

Reboot and the Administrator account will show up at the Welcome screen.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]
