I am using Firefox 1.0 on a '98SE system. I do a search for some web
page and get three results. I delete one of them by pressing the
delete icon or right click delete. The bookmark remains.

Is anyone else seeing this ? Is there any way to get "delete" to
actually work please ?

Regards, John.

Firefox has gone through several security updates and bug fixes. Perhaps
you should try installing Firefox 1.0.5.

All the versions of Firefox for Windows (including 1.0.5) have shown
this behaviour. You can't delete or change Properties on the results of
a search. You can if you navigate to the bookmark without using search.
I haven't investigated seriously, but haven't seen any obvious way of
identifying the folder that a bookmark shown in the search display is
in. I haven't tested non-Windows versions.

But you can delete from a 1.0.6 search. Still can't change properties,
though.

That has been my experience too during the two years that I used
Mozilla/FF. It's why I moved from Firefox to Opera v8.0
freeware/bannerware at www.opera.com

Does the 1.0.6 search indicate which folders the various "found" links
are located in?

I don't have the time to investigate yet; please post if you find an
answer.

At a quick glance everything in the search list is the same as before,
except that "Delete" is not greyed out.

Best wishes,

Thanks, but clicking "delete" doesn't work for me in 1.0.6.

Clicking the delete icon in the Bookmarks Manager doesn't work for
searches either. :-(

Hmm. That's strange John. On my system, Firefox 1.0.6 is working
perfectly. In fact, all versions since I installed it have worked well.
Maybe if you do this (kinda tedious though):

1. Exit Firefox.
2. Delete your "user.js" file and create a new blank one.
3. Restart Firefox.
4. Type in "about:config" in the location field and hit enter.
5. On each preference, right click and select "Reset"

It may be easier to:
1. back up your existing user profile somewhere (maybe even zip it
temporarily, since Firefox installation might detect and use it)
2. then uninstall Firefox - deleting the original profile.
3. Next, without running Firefox, move the new *totally default
settings* prefs.js to a backup location and
4. copy the files from your backed up user profile into the new one.
5. Finally, overwrite the old "prefs.js" file you just restored with the
new *totally default settings* prefs.js you moved to another location.

Sounds hard, but it would actually be much easier than the first way.

John, I haven't ever had to do this but I bet it would correct your
problems.

So you can delete bookmarks after doing a "search" ? You obviously
have a different 1.0.6 than I have.

After also asking in the Firefox newsgroup I got ;
This is a known bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255255
which has finally been fixed for FF 1.1.

Regards, John.

Whoops. Sorry John. I can't

I did notice that if I cleared the search field, I was then able to
delete the bookmark. Of course, this doesn't help at all....
