Widows Update auto downloaded an update that I do not wish to install.
Could someone please tell me how to delete it?

Try to remove it through Start \ Control Panel \ Add or Remove Programs.
Verify that “Show Updates†is checked, and scroll down to find the Update you
want to remove, by the date installed.

An article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base, Information about the ability
to uninstall Office updates, which might be helpful:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903771/en-us#appliesto
although you have not described which XP version is in question.

Tried the uninstall, no joy. The update in question in the Genuine Advantage
(KB905474). I bought the Dell 8250 new (JRQ4T21) on May 3, 2003. About a
year ago, I began receiving messages that my copy of windows was not genuine.
I am not sure of the corrective action taken to get rid of it as another
person was involved. I just don't want to go through all that again, so I
guess the best thing will be to keep clicking off the waiting to install
notice. Thank You very much for the help--Bob

Install it and move on?
Fix it if it is broken still?

Is the copy installed on your Dell not the license it came with (sticker on
the machine?)
(Use something like Belarc Advisor to see if the product key for Windows XP
matches the product key on the sticker on your PC...)

Doesn't match?
You can change the product key so it matches...

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall!

Still getting the message?
MVP Carey Frisch has this set of instructions:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool -
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and
then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA
Validation Problems" forum and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic Data
in a detailed post -
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and recommend an
appropriate solution.
