#Deleted overwrites all records

when linking tables to ODBC data, why is #DELETED displayed for every field
of every record? There is data in the tables but the msg #DELETED is
overwritten.

I believe the advice in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=128809 applies to
all versions of Access.
