I have always told friends that as part of keeping their hard drives
tidy and free of superfluous rubbish that if the use Email a lot then
after a period of time the Deleted Items.dbx can become very large and
take up useful space. Do a search anddelete - OE will create a new and
empty Deleted Items.dbx.
With XP I have never been able to find the Deleted Items.dbx.
I have looked in File types (re hidden files) etc and there does not
appear to be anything there to prevent it being found. Is it something
in Xp or the up dated OE which prevents me finding it. Or is it the
idiot factor? Any comments would be appreciated, Don.

Only if you don't empty the Deleted Items Folder and don't compact folders.

Only neccesary if the folder becomes corrupted as long as you do the above.

Only a hidden and System file. Enable those and you'll see it.

In XP all of the user specific files are located in the <user> folders under
Documents and Settings. In Outlook Express, select Tools/Options/Maintenance
Tab/Store Folder Button. This will show the path to the folder where all of
the OE .dbx files are located.

Start in Documents and Settings on the C drive. Drill down through your
username then LocalSettings>ApplicationData>Identities. There will then be a
folder for each identity.
