Deleted folder - missing emails?

P

Pam

when I delete my mail from my inbox (or other folders) it doesn't appear in
the deleted folder - I finally found them though - they are going into a
folder called SEARCH FOLDERS and then under that are 3 folders called
Categorized Mail, Large Mail and Unread Mail (none of these I created - so
am guessing Outlook makes them) .. why do they go there instead of in the
deleted folder?? and how do I get them to go into the deleted folder instead
of all these other folders?

thanks

Those are search folders, not real folders. If you look in one of those
folders you'll see a "In Folder" column that will show you the name of the
real folder the message is in. What does it say?

mmm ok - I see - so these not real folders - called search folders - are
holding all my mail in case I search for them? then where does my deleted
email go? when I delete an email ... it vanishes... there is a 'number'
associated with my deleted folder - right now it says 90 ... but there is
nothing in the folder??? WHERE are those 90 deleted emails??

also - I deleted by accident the Unread Mail folder under Search Folders -
should I make that folder again and put it under Search folders?

thanks for the help

Not "in case" yoiu search for them. Search folders are active in that they
immediately show you any messages in any folders that are covered by the
search criteria. As soon as you have a message that fits the search
criteria, the search folder will show the message and tell you which folder
it's in.

Clearly if the status bar says there are 90 messages in the Deleted Items
folder, then that's where they are. You appear to have a view that is
hiding them. What view are you using in the Deleted Items folder?

Right-click "Search Folders", choose "New Search Folder", then click OK.
The :Unread Mail" search is the default search that gets created.

wow - now that was eyeopening ... I have - or thought I had - all my folders
so I could see them - View/Current View - Messages is the default that is
checked for the other folders...when I click on View/Current View / Messages
with Autopreview - THEN all the messages show up in the deleted folder! -
and NOW there are like 478!!!

This creature is so much more 'complicated' then xp pro outlook express!

wonder what else I'm missing!

Now...the only thing I can tell a difference between some of these folders
is that at the right hand corner there is a "filter applied' sign .. and the
emails in the folders that I can view immediately (headers at top and msg
below) do not have a 'filter' applied - where/how do I remove those filters?

thanks!

Do you use Exchange? Do you sync with a handheld device?
