Deleted Folder - Can't clear file

I cannot delete an e-mail from my deleted folder. I could
not read the e-mail when originally received. Moved it to
the deleted folder. I have tried several ways to delete
the item. I continue to get a illegal operation error
message. This is the message in the details screen:

Select the message and hold SHIFT and press DEL ....
