Deleted backgrounds reappear?

I'm trying to delete two desktop background images. They
are two bmp files in the Windows directory. After I delete
them and then remove them from the recycle bin they seem
to be gone, but after rebooting they magically reappear in
the Windows directory! I've tried to use "Find" to locate
additional copies but it cannot find them stored anywhere
else. How can deleted images reappear?
 
Click on Start / RUN / REGEDIT

do a search for the bmp name and del every instance of that file name

Then it should go away, be careful using regedit, you can mess up the OS if
you del the wrong thing.
