delete local copies of roaming profile upon logoff

These machines are not in an AD.

I've used gpedit.msc to set up policies locally on a
number of machines - and the delete local copies of
roaming profiles upon logoff is the only one the appears
to not be working. The only other policy under the
\computer policy\administrative templates\system\logon\
it "wait for remote profile"

What do I need to do to get this working so that the
locally cached copies of the profiles will delete on
logoff?

The machines are a part of a domain though.

you might consider using delprof. It allows you delete all profiles or
particular profiles or after periods of inactivity.
