Delete Encrypted Directory / Files on XP-Pro

Nanook

Had someone using my machine that encrypted their directory. I want to
delete their directory and files but Windows XP will not let me.

This machine is running Windows-XP Pro, I have logged in as Admin, taken
ownership of the files, given myself what should be full permissions, but still
it will not let me delete this.

I don't want to read the files I just want to get them off my drive.

Can anybody tell me how to delete an entire encrypted directory tree for
which you do not have the key?

You may be able to change the name of the directory or of each of the
files, and then delete them. That worked for me in deleting a virus file
that somehow seemed to be read-only. I could not find how it was
write-protected, but it would not let me delete it. I changed its name in
the hope that it would not do its dirty-work, and suddenly I could delete
it. I don't know why, but it seemed to work. I was running a PC with
Microsoft XP Pro.

That sounds like some kind of registry entry thing. Try searching the
registry for the original file name and delete any related entries and
maybe keys.
