Delete color scheme

Glen Millar

Hi James,

Color Schemes are replaced by Themes. In the Design Tab, go to the Colors
drop down button. That is where the colors can be modified. There are many
that cannot be deleted as they are defaults. However, you can delete a color
set for a theme if you created your won custom set.

Why do you want this functionality?

Just to add...you can right-click the color schemes in the Design Tab,
Colors dropdown. There will be a "delete" option on the ones you can delete.

I believe the installed Theme Colors are located here: C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 12\Theme Colors

I would not recommend that you delete these. I'm not sure what kind of
issues it will cause, to tell the truth.

Thanks

For some reason that shortcut option doesn't appear in the presentations I'm
working on, most of which were created in PP 2003, but does if I create a new
presentation.

I suppose there must be some sort of compatibility problem between schemes
and themes. However, saving in pptx format doesn't make the option reappear
either nor does converting the template (where the colour scheme is supposed
to be defined) to potx.

It's not that big a deal - just annoying

Ah, yeah, I bet it is.

Those "color schemes" that appear when you open a PPT file in PowerPoint
2007 come from the color schemes in 2003. Thing is, nobody ever even
realized there *were* alternative color scheme options in 2003, so they just
left them there. And then 2007 creates a theme color scheme for each one.

And, of course, 2007 doesn't translate those old color schemes very well, so
I can completely understand why you'd want to remove them. I think you may
need to head to this folder:

Vista:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes\Theme
Colors

WinXP
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes\Theme Colors

Sorry, meant to post those before.

Is this functionality
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HP051930011033.aspx)
available
in PowerPoint 2007? There doesn't seem to be any option to manage /
delete
unwanted colour schemes...you can only go on creating new ones

Hi,

Echo is right. You don't want to delete the ones out of the folders, believe
me! ;-)
