Delegation of DHCP administration

B

Bob Williams

I've got an interesting DHCP delegation problem:

I have 2 domain controllers in different locations. I would like to
have a "local" administrator who can manage the DHCP only in his
location. Since the group DHCP Administrators is a domain wide group
and all domain
controllers share the same security, how do I delegate? Is it
possible?

I would think this is something you'd be able to do, but haven't been
able to figure this one out.

Please help.

Thank you,
Bob

Hello Bob. (I'm not sure of this, but give it a try)

Open Active Directory Sites and Services.
[Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Active Directory
Sites and Services]

Click the top object, then click View Show Services Nodes, Expand the
container Services, also expand the NetServices container. Try modify the
security for each particular server listed. I don't think I helps, it should
only be for authorize dhcp servers within the domain.

Actually, if your servers are Windows Server 2003 DHCP Servers, and your
DC's are the same, the DHCP Administrators group at the DC is Domain Local
(local to the DC), and all DHCP Administrators groups on each DHCP Server
are machine local.
