as subject says getting tons of these with usb drives (2 different makes)
with maxtor drives installed. Also do get ocassional with WD 200G drive.
Searched Google and read up and seems it MS problem mostly but was wondering
if there are others who have experienced and if there is a solution. It
seems more pronounced when the drives reach 50% or greater of capacity.
Happens on company computer as well with XP Pro installed so it's not
limited to my home computer.

Thanks

"Delayed Write Failed" error message when you manage files in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330174

Also, try this:
Right click my computer , properties, Advanced, Performance section,
"Settings" button , Advanced, Memory Usage, "Adjust for best performance of ..."
Make sure "Programs" is checked...

The number in the "Value data" box is presently c3000. It will not allow an
me to type the "x" in the string "0xFFFFFFFF". Dare I type in the eight F's?

As mentioned in previous message that box is already checked.

My value is 7b000
I set mine to eight f's and nothing happened. Try it and see if the problem goes away. But
first, right-click the left-panel "Memory Management" key, select "Export", and save it to the
C:\ drive just in case something bad happens. You can always put it back in the safe mode by
double clicking the saved reg file and rebooting.

Tell us how you fixed it, if you ever do fix it....
I've been waiting 7 months for the right answer.

For some Write behind caching issues, you need to obtain a
Power Cache setting tool from MS called Dskcache.Exe. It's
available only as a Hotfix from PSS.

Thanks for the input.

So far so good but this was with the WD which never gave near the trouble.
Much more testing required.

Will update as it testing continues.

Update:

Just completed filling a WD 40G to the point that it reported not enough
room to transfer file. Not a hitch so far. This is encouraging but remain a
skeptic. :-) I've had SOOOO much trouble over the past year or more.

Will continue testing.

Wouldn't this already be included in SP2?

Well, it's not working. Even the 200 G which seldom gave trouble is still
acting up. Another 40G identical to the first won't let me write hardly
anything to it. Part of that problem could be the age of the second WD40G.
It's two years older than the one that was working fine. Another point I
discoverd was the USB port on the rear works better than the one on the
front. Could the problems with Delayed Write Failed be partly related to
hardware?

I get the exact smae thing with 2 external SATA->USB2 enclosures w Seagate
drives, + 2 LaCie disks. Really really annoying. I'll try the various
hotfixes but, they seem to talk about either 1394 drives or internal
drives..? In my opinion there is something wrong with WinXP. All drives are
set to "quick removal".
I usually get the $mft thing... Scary stuff.
