My computer has suddenly started to produce 'Delayed
Write Failure' error messages reporting that it has
been 'unable to save all the data for the file $Mft' on
my external partitioned HDD.
There seems to be no patern to these error messages. They
can appear either while I am working on the PC or if it
has been left inactive for a while.
After getting the message I check my external drive and
find a lot of files and folders missing. However, a
shutdown and restart shows all the files on the drive to
be intact.
Can anyone tell me what a 'Delayed Write Failue' message
is and why I'm suddenly getting loads of them - and
should I worry?
Before sending this e-mail I did a virus sweep, a defrag
and checked in Control Panels. Nothing shows that there
is anything wrong.
For your information my external drive is a LaCie 200Gb
HDD bought last summer. It runs off a USB 2.0 internal
hub in my PC.
Any help or advice would be incredibly welcome!
