Delayed startup

I have just installed XP, upgraded to Broadband internet
and added Norton SystemWorks.
I am having problems with the XP startup - everything
goes ok, desktop screen & icons show, Windows opening
sound plays - then nothing happens for about 2 minutes.
If I try to access any programs, it just hangs there,
then all of a sudden everything starts.
Any suggestions?

Debbie,

I've been having the same problem, and have read where
some have solved this problem by uninstalling Norton
Systemworks. I uninstalled Norton yet the problem still
exists. I will tell you this: Norton Anti-virus 2004
REALLY slowed my computer down. I replaced it with E-
Trust anti-virus and things got back to normal (except
for the problem of the boot process taking 3+ minutes.)

I too had problems after installing Norton System Works. It slows things way down in XP. I liked Nortons but everything was just too slow afterwards and I decided it wasn't worth it. So I reformatted to start with clean slate and switched to McAfee for Anti-virus and Firewall and all is OK again. As for the utilities, I,m still trying to decide what is the best product
I expect this isn't what you wanted to hear but I just wanted to pass along my experience
