Hi
I recently installed (but now uninstalled) a desktop enhancement software
DektopArchitect. And now da problem is that da control panel icon & Printers
& Faxes icon in Start Menu is changed from its default picture. Can u pls
help me about this?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon

-and-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}]

Export both the above keys and post the contents here.

you have to manually reselect the correct icons from the shell32.dll from
withing desktop architects
options to configure the system icons.
That program is not compatible with XP and should not be installed on it.
However for use with win95,98,Me its very good.

You will find out that an option is not availabe now too...
its the EFFECTS button on the display properties>appearance window. You will
not be able to access it.

Pehaps if you would do a system restore to a point before you installed the
program it would be better.

To export a registry key, choose File menu, click Export. Save as a .REG file to your Desktop. Then right-click the .REG file and open-with Notepad. Copy and paste the contents here.

If Windows is installed in C:\, then the values are correct. Check this registry key as well:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]

Please post the content of that key. If you find an entry named "37", backup the key and delete the value.

I got some good news for u. I solved my problem using the same program
but the Printers and faxes icon is still not very clear. i uninstalled
DesktopArchitect now. Ur suggestions r welcome

I got some good news for u. I solved my problem using the same program
but the Printers and faxes icon is still not very clear. i uninstalled

Thanks. So the problem is resolved now, except for the low-res icon? If so, is that the only icon which is exhibiting this behavior?

I got some good news for u. I solved my problem using the same program
but the Printers and faxes icon is still not very clear. i uninstalled
DesktopArchitect now. Ur suggestions r welcome

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]

Please post the content of that key. If you find an entry named "37", backup the key and delete the value.

According to ur advice i m trying to export these 2 keys for changing
contrl panel & Printers & Faxes icons from Start Menu. But i dont know just
how to do it.Also I don’t have diff admin accounts- its only one for
Administrator.Pls Help

Hi
I recently installed (but now uninstalled) a desktop enhancement software
DektopArchitect. And now da problem is that da control panel icon & Printers
& Faxes icon in Start Menu is changed from its default picture. Can u pls
help me about this?

Not sure why it happens for the particular icon. See if these steps help:

1. Delete the iconcache.db and let Windows rebuild the database
2. Repair the icon view using Tweak UI.
3. Send a screenshot to my email (ramesh @ mvps . org) - Trim the spaces accordingly.

Regarding step 2:
In some cases Tweak UI corrupts the icon view by setting incorrect BPP value. If that happens, follow this advice:

1. iconcache.db is a hidden file present here (Type the path in Start/Run):
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data

2. Tweak UI has the "Rebuild icons" feature (not only for Desktop icons)
