Defragment will not open

I'm not sure when it started, but now when I try to run the Defrag Utility, a
box pops up and says "Windows cannot open this file"

file: dfrg.msc

Then it goes on to ask what I want to use to open the file...

What do I do?

Would you recheck your error message. The more normal message is:

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc

have exactly the same thing..

Apply the .MSC association fix from here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_mscfix.zip

BTW, you can also use command-line Defrag (defrag.exe). Type defrag.exe /? in Command Prompt.
