defrag

I am using winxp service pack 2. The defrag runs about half way then the
message says cannot defrap folder windows/system32. Can anyone help

Try first windows file protection and recovery utility,install xp cd,exit
the info
page,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow When its thru type:
Defrag C:

What happens next? Does defrag finish running? Have you tried running
chkdsk on the volume and then running defrag again.

FYI: Files that are in use are usually "off limit" to disk utilities.
Example: If you run defrag a second time, immediately after the first run,
you most likely will see files addressed that were skipped the first time.
