defrag runs automatically

Once or twice a week an error message appears on WinXP Pro
saying defrag.exe started to run and experienced a
problem. defrag.exe seems to start automatically and it
is NOT scheduled or no one launches it. Can anyone help?

look to see if you have a Disk frag program installed,
like Diskkeeper by mistake.

have you ran defrag manually and if so does it run all the

Go to start/allprograms/accessories/system

tools/scheduled tasks, see if the auto defrag is listed
in there. If so delete it and it shouldn't run anymore.

Yes, manually it runs ok, just tells me at the end that
some files could not be moved. Fragmentation % went down
from7% to 0%.

No Diskkeeper. This is a month-old machine with very
little on it, except XP, Norton AntiVirus, and a $1,500
package whose tech support says they don't do any
defragging (and their documenation doesn't refer to any).
