Definition Version Question

In installing another program, I noticed this difference in Windows Defender,
which I find curious.

When I go to "About Windows Defender", the Definition Version is
1.14.1501.7. However in "Windows Install Cleanup", the Windows Defender
Signatures are 1.20.1459.12. Are these different items, or should they be
the same?

My current "About Windows Defender" shows:

Windows Defender Version 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version 1.1.1441.0
Definitions Version 1.14.1501.1

Is this the correct, latest version of WD? Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Sorry for double post - I was trying to correct the first post to show
Definitions Version as 1.14.1501.7 instead of 1.14.1501.1 - sorry - wish I
knew how to edit my posts - lol.

I'm not sure what is going on here. The difference in the second number I
think I've seen explained--but the difference in the final two numbers is
perplexing.

I do want to strongly urge against using that cleanup tool.

In this last round of security patches were two for Office, including a
critical patch for all Word versions from 2000 on. If you have used the
installer cleanup tool, it is possible that neither OfficeUpdate nor
MicrosoftUpdate will properly detect and apply these critical patches.

Users who have used the Installer cleanup tool in the past should check
their WindowsUpdate history and see whether the Office patches have been
applied. If they haven't been, and are not offered, a repair install of
Office may be needed.

I agree with you, Bill, about use of cleanup tool. I was not using it for
Defender nor for Office - but for Adobe Reader, as I couldn't get update to
7.0.8 to work until I removed 7.0.7. I just happened to look at Defender
while I was there messing with Adobe updates.
