Defender uninstalled

After finally getting it to update from my WSUS server to the new signatures,
PC WILL NOT BOOT - locks up completely, had to do a last known good boot.
Even then, it shows that the exe is running, but no tray icon - how did such
a good product go downhill so fast???

Plus, does this product update automatically?
Doesn't matter, I'm back to the BETA 1 product - at least it worked!

Well, from bad to worse - uninstalled, rebooted, then reinstalled 1.0.701 and
immediately tells me it expired Dec. 31, 2005!!! Another pc running the exact
same version says it expires July 31, 2006! SpyBot, you are the one!!

Can you say BAD TASTE (patooie!)

In C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\TempUpdates (or wherever you have
installed the program) you will find an update dated in December. Install
this and your problems are solved.

I am sorry that you are running into difficulties with Defender Beta 2. When
you downloaded updates, did you only grab the defender updates, or did you
install other updates as well?

As far as the missing icon goes, it is currently "by design" to not see the
system tray icon after installing Windows Defender B2.

I would be curious to know system information such as OS/Service
Pack/Processor/Memory so I can investigate.
