Defaulting to .xlt?

This is hard to put into terms where it will make sense,
but hopefully someone out there will know what I am
talking about.

I made a template. Now when I pull up this specific .xlt
document, and go to "save as" it defaults as template
format.

Some users pull up my form and it will "save as" an .xls
by default (which I thought was the norm, right?), and
some users will default to that .xlt just like I do. It
doesn't seem to matter who had admin rights to the folder
either...weird.

Is that a setting in Excel, or have I not made this form
right? I want to keep these certain few from overwriting
my template.

One thing I've noticed:
If you open the file from Windows Explorer, it appears to default to the
..xls you're looking for.

But if you open the file form Excel (example - from Excel, click File-Open
and then browse to the .xlt file, this keeps it as an .xlt file.

If you don't want your file overwritten, you should make the file Read-Only.

HTH,
Paul

Is the file in the Template directory and are you opening it via, file new and
selecting the type?

Make sure your template is in the templates folder
and select File / New (not the button on the button
bar. If you use File / Open (or open it through
Explorer) and select the template it will default
to the .xlt extension
