default Word page comes up square

I was experiemtning with templates in Word and now for some reason my default
Word page comes up square rather than rectangular 8 1/2 X 11. I have deleted
and restored my normal.dot file, even reinstalled Office, but cannot get back
the 8 /12 x 11 configuration. Any ideas?

Maybe it's this: http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/WhiteSpace.htm.
When the White Space option is turned off, Word hides the top and
bottom margins (header and footer), which would make the page appear
to be 8.5 x 9.
