default word document icon

While corecting another problem (via regedit), I have unfortunately modified
the default icon associated with a new Word (Office XP) document. When I
save a new doc in Word format, the icon is the icon typically associated with
wordpad documents. Word is still used to open the document, but the icon is
a wordpad icon.
I can save the document in RTF format, and the icon is the Word icon.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office .... no help.
Any suggestions? TIA

You just need to reregister Word. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm or just type winword
/r at the Start | Run prompt.

After I ran winword /r, my icons no longer are the wordpad icons, but I don't
know what they are. When I create a new word document, it is saved in word
format, but I am unfamiliar with the icon.
