Default PST file?

Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP gave the following advice, but I don't see how to
make a pst file default. Help please.

You probably now have two copies of the same data file open in Outlook. This
is easy to fix. Use File | Data File Management to mark the copy in the new
location as the default store. Then, in that same dialog, remove the old
version.

You have opened File-Data File Management (in Outlook) , clicked on the Data
Files tab, highlighted the correct pst file and clicked on "Set as Default"?
Fairly obvious, really....

In the FIle | Data File Management, select the .pst you want to be the default, then click the Set as Default button. If you need further assistance, give details, including your Outlook version.

Outlook 2003

File | Data File Management, first of all there is no tabs of any kind on
the box that comes up. It lists the two pst files that I have in a large
box on the left. On the right there are buttons labeled Tell Me More,
Settings, Open Folder, Add, Remove, and Close. I feel like a real dunce but
I see nothing that says Set as Default anywhere.

It really helps if you provide your Outlook version. Otherwise, I usually assume people have the latest and are new to it.

In Outlook 2003, go to Tools | E-mail Accounts. Choose View or change existing accounts. You'll see the Set as Default button there.

I'm sorry Sue, I see how to make one email account the default email account
not the pst. I guess we'd just better forget about it. Sorry to have
bothered you.

They probably took you to the wrong place. In OL2002 (it's possible it
is different for OL2003), to select a default message store, do the
following:

- Mail applet in Control Panel.
- E-mail accounts.
- You see the list of e-mail account (you can get here in Outlook, too).
Under E-mail, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts."
- Under "Deliver new mail to the following location", select whichever
message store you want. That selects the default message store.

It can get confusing if you used the same title for multiple message
stores. If you name them differently then you know which one is for
which message store in the drop-down listbox. For example, my normal
store is titled "Personal Folders - <myname>" and the archive message
store that I open in Outlook is called "Archive - <myname>". Back under
the "Data Files" dialog that you were told about before is the Settings
button where you can change the title of these message stores.

--- REPLY SEPARATOR ---
(only required because Sue used quoted-printable format)
(surprised an MVP uses quoted-printable in Usenet posts)

That Default button is only enabled if more than one e-mail account is
defined; otherwise, the one defined e-mail account is the default one.
When two, or more, e-mail accounts are defined then the Default button
is enabled (after you highlight an e-mail account other than the current
default one).

I explained in my other post how to change which message store is the
default one. It is selected by specifying which one is to where new
e-mails get delivered.

It was a technical answer, crammed with jargon ... not "fairly
obvious" at all. Take your sneers elsewhere.

So YOU think that the instruction "File|data File management" is a
"technical answer crammed with jargon"?
Jeeeeze!
