Default Printer Keeps Changing

D

Seven of our thirty-plus users have complained that their default
printer has changed a half-dozen or more times over the course of the
past several weeks. All our printers are shared through the server.
Some users' default printer changes from one shared printer to another
shared printer. Others' default printer changes from a shared printer
to Microsoft Office Document Image Writer. These changes are
happening on both XP and Win2K computers.

I would appreciate any advice on what to do about this. Please let me
know if you require additional information.

What has changed over the last few weeks? Do these printers have a
static IP? Or were the IP changed over to be assigned by DHCP? Windows
may be seeing the printer as unavailable and assign a new default. I
would think it would just list it as Offline, but stranger things have
happened.
