Default option settings

I have done a search of the forum and can't seem to find an answer to my
question. When I open a document, there are certain options I would like to
always have set; for example, when I open a document, sometimes the bookmarks
are visible and the field codes are "always" shaded. Other times, I have to
go in and set those options myself. Either way, I always end up having to
check the options first thing. I would like to know if there is a way to set
those options, regardless of the document, or if the settings are saved
individually with the document.

Look at the "Auto... macros" section at the end of
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. If there are particular options
you want to set that aren't covered in that section, post back for further
instructions.

I was surprised to read "Word 2003 in particular seems prone to losing at
least some of its user settings at random, and so you can use auto macros to
force the preferred conditions." But it definitely answered my question. I
was able to build the macros as described in the link you provided, but I’m
always a little concerned about having to use a work-around. Regardless, I
have my answer. Thank you very much.
