Default mail client?

G

Guest

I use MSN as my internet default email program. However, I cannot use WORD
letters and mailing envelope address book option. I keep getting the warning
'set microdoft outlook as default mail client' does that mean i have to
receive email through OUTLOOK and not MSN?
Is there a way to use MSN as my email default and still have the ability to
use the address book in WORD to address my mail envelopes?
Thanks
Robert

"does that mean i have to receive email through OUTLOOK and not MSN?"
No, it means in order to do a mail merge from within Word you'll need to
have Outlook set as the default.

"Is there a way to use MSN as my email default and still have the ability to
use the address book in WORD to address my mail envelopes?"
There is address book in Word. Where do you store you contacts?

To the best of my knowledge, Word does not integrate with MSN Mail.

Roady,
Thanks for the help but I'm not familiar with OUTLOOK and don't understand
your advice ieNo, it means in order to do a mail merge from within Word
you'll need to have Outlook set as the default, I am sorry but it makes no
sense to me?
I have gone to the options as shown in the OUTLOOK help menu and checked the
icon re: OUTLOOK as mail default but it didn't work. Can you be more
specific, maybe I missed something?
I have not done any address merging in WORD and don't know how! Where is the
WORD address book and how do I populate it?

Brian,
Roady, seems to think it does, but I am like you and have not been able to
do it. I am waiting for his clearification of how to do it.
Thanks
Robert

You said: No he doesn't. That's not what he said.
I assumed there was one data base ie the same address data base that OUTLOOK
uses for its contacts, but I guess you're saying that there is a completely
seperate data base for another address book in WORD, is that what you mean?
How do I populate the seperate WORD data base?
Thanks again for your help.

Typo; sometimes I think faster than I type. I meant to say "no addressbook
in Word". Otherwise the follow up question didn't make sense either ;-)

Further follow up in the other thread.

To create letters and envelopes you are merging your address book with your
Word document. When you use it to e-mail the Word document we call it a mail
merge. For this you'll need to have Outlook as the default mail client.

I assume you currently store your contacts in MSN (Hotmail?)? Word doesn't
support that as a source for the merge. See if you can export your contacts
to a supported format like an Excel sheet.

Note that the merging feature for Word has its own newsgroup
word.mailmerge.fields

This is what I want to do. I don't care about emailing, I want to address
envelopes. How do I do this? I don't understand why I have you have OUTLOOK
as an E-MAIL default when I don't want to email, I just want to add an
address to an envelope?

OUTLOOK is where all my contacts are stored. I believe in PUTLOOK 2000 there
wasn't a problem doning what I want to do. It only came about when I upgrades

I can't recall if that actually was the case. Since it is mainly a Word
issue wanting Outlook as the default I think it is better to continue this
in the Word mail merge newsgroup. Otherwise temporarily put Outlook as the
default mail application through Control Panel-> Internet Options-> tab
Applications.

I use yahoo.mail and can not reply to web sites that open/have an outlook
mail reply. My PC goes haywire opening up windows and I have to shut it down
alt-ctl-delete.
I went into outlook to set, check box it as the default. My error message
reads "default mail client".
I've spoken to MS Support who referred me this community upport group.
