Default gateway backup

We have two gateways to the Internet. I would like to
program a server to use the second gateway if the default
one fails. There is only one network card in the server.
Although the backup gateway address is in the tcp/ip
section with a metric of 2, internet access does not occur
if the primary gateway fails.

Any ideas?

Try changing the metric of that gateway to 1.
