Default column settings

Lately, no matter what document I open in Word 2000, the program DEFAULTS to
4 column setting. This makes every document appear as a very narrow column,
even if the document was originally 1 full page width column.

How do I change the default for Word 2000 to 1 column so that I do not have
to keep going to TOOLS|COLUMNS to modify each and every file?

Thanks Shauna. That helped a lot. I created a new Normal.dot with all the
correct settings and everything is working well now. Once again, thank you
very much.

I hope that your statement that you "created a new Normal.dot" is not
literal. Be aware that only Word can create Normal.dot.

I realize that. I just did as instructed and renamed the Normal.dot to
OldNormal.dot. The I restarted Word and it created the new Normal.dot.
