Hi Group

When I insert / edit a label on the y/x axis in charts, .ppt defaults
this as bold text, which I have to manually change every time - does
anyone know a way round this?

I suspect your default chart has been overwritten with one using a bold
font.

Try this --

Open a chart you've formatted the way you want.
Then go to Chart/Chart Types and on the Custom Types tab, click Set as
Default Chart.

Hopefully that will cure the bold problem.

Hi Echo

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried this, and was asked to apply a
name which I did.

When I insert new charts, they look the way I had formatted them, but
still have bold text coming through.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I don't see the original post, so I don't know what you tried.

Can you please quote the pertinent information?

Oh, you know, try going to Tools/Options/Edit in PPT and deselect "new
charts take on PPT fonts."

Hi Echo

Thanks for your reply. I tried Tools/Options/Edit and it worked- the
font went ballistic in size (29pt), but I unticked the Autoscale on the
font menu for this.

Thanks for your valuable help

Regards
Atogeniqua

p.s. Not sure why you couldn't see the orignal message, but I have

Hi Echo

It appears my original question has become valid.

When I insert charts, the formatting is the way I want it - thanks for
that.

However when I edit the x/y axis labels, these come out bold.

Also when I insert a legend, this comes out in a white filled, black
bordered box (the default?)

Thanks

Thanks for posting your original question and the responses. I couldn't see
them because the original thread is about a month old and I don't have my
system set to keep messages that long.

I think that now that you've told PPT not to let charts take on the PPT
font, you'll need to redo the steps to create a new default chart.

Make sure to select the *chart area* (not an individual thing on the
chart -- e.g., the plot area, the x-axis, etc.) and remove autoscale in the
fonts tab and format the font to "regular" and an appropriate size. This
will make those font attributes apply to everything in the chart. If you
need individual things to be formatted differently, then do the overall
chart area thing and then go back in and format the individual pieces.
You'll have to actually add the things to be able to change them in this
manner -- so add a legend and format it the way you want. Add a chart title
and format it the way you want. etc.

Then save as a user-defined chart, giving it a name when asked to do so in
the user-defined area. You may have to go back and select that chart after
it's created and then check the "set as default chart" option.

After you do that, you can delete the legend (or chart title or whatever)
and reset the default chart once again if you don't want a legend (or chart
title or whatever) in your default chart.

The legend issue could also be related to your slide color scheme. If the
background and text colors in your color scheme are backwards, it can affect
your chart background and font colors. This happens usually when you've used
a photo or an autoshape as your slide background yet neglected to change the
slide color scheme to reflect that. See
http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes.htm for more information on how color
schemes work.

I am having problems with my user defined chart not "holding" the format...
Can somebody please please help me? I have about 5 of them and when I make a
new chart and then select my user defined chart type all the colors are wrong
including everything else.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

The colors are dependent on your slide color scheme--assuming that you
assigned color scheme colors to your user-defined charts.

See http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes.htm for specifics. Start with
Color Schemes I, not with color schemes and MS Graph.

As far as "everything else," that's way too vague to even attempt. You'll
have to provide more details on that one.

How do you assign color scheme colors to a user-defined chart?

You assign the colors from the row of fills at the bottom of the colors.
Those colors are based on your slide color scheme. When the slide color
scheme changes, the chart colors should change, too.

Did you read all the color schemes pages?
http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes.htm explains color schemes in general
http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes2.htm explains what happens when you
move one slide into another presentation -- why colors change or don't
change

Once you've read those and understand more about color schemes, read
http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes3.htm -- it explains how colors work
on charts. There's even a section at the end that talks a little about
user-defined charts. Colors are assigned to those just like they are to
regular PPT-defined charts.
