Default Browser

I am running Windows XP Pro.

How do I, as an administrator, configure Windows so that I have Maxthon as
my default browser and my sister, as a limited user, has Netscape as her
default browser? What I have tried so far dosn't work. Setting a browser as
the default seems to make it the default for all users.

When I run DefaultBrowser as an adminitrator, everything works OK.
When I run DefaultBrowser as a limited user, I get the following:

Run-time error '429'.
ActiveX component can't create object.

Any ideas?

This happens due to incorrect registry permissions. Make sure that the
"Users" group have "Read" permission for the following registry keys:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WScript.Shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{72C24DD5-D70A-438B-8A42-98424B88AFB8}]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0D43FE01-F093-11CF-8940-00A0C9054228}]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{A5064422-D541-11D4-9523-00B0D022CA64}]

If the "Users" group don't have access to the above keys, then a limited
user account cannot run DefaultBrowser utility, nor any other utility which
utilizes scripting language runtimes.

Alternately, try runing DefaultBrowser tool using the RunAs (with
Administrator credentials) to temporarily elevate the privileges for running
the utility. That way, the "ActiveX" error should not occur.

Elmo,
Ussually the last browser installed will be the default browser for
which ever USER the installed software was installed. However, while
logged in as the USER your concerned about...

I suggest opening Windows Explorer and select
TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > FILE TYPES Tab >
then go down to file types "htm", and "html" and
select each one individually and make sure that
browser you want as default is selected next to
"open with". If it's not, then click CHANGE, and
select the browser program you want.

Good Luck!
