Bought a laptop for daughter and on it there are the temporary MS Office
products, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc..., which I think are only valid for 30
days. Salesman at store said that I just needed to buy the MS Office
Standard Edition 2003 upgrade. I haven't opened it yet because in reading
the box I don't think that is true and I would need to buy licensed versions
of these. Also MS (or maybe it was the PC manufacturer that did that) used
to give the Word software out with new PCs as part of the package - that was
a nice gesture and think that should be reinstated :-).
Best Regards,
Debbie

The trial version is just that "a Trial" and does not allow you to use
the "Upgrade" to become legit.

MS never included MS Office with the OS, that was always a vendors
option/path.

MS Office, educational version, which includes the Office 2003 Prof
suite, can be purchased for about $100 through dealers that provide EDU
software. Even kids in public school (K-12) qualify for it.

IS the EDU package valid for college students?

Yep and it's easier for them to buy it than most K-12 kids. College kids
already have a ID card, and their school book store will often sell the
EDU version directly, so it makes it easy for them to get it.

Check with the school bookstore or IT department. At OSU you can just
walk into the book store and purchase it - as long as you have a valid
ID card. Teachers/Students quality for the EDU version.
