AOpen MX36 mobo w/Celeron 900
only signs of life CPU cooling fan and red LED on mobo, no beeps
how do I check which component failed? (P/S, mobo, CPU...?)
Have disconnected everything else,

How dead is it. Are you getting any beeps? The LED indicates power is
running through the mobo, not much to tell you there (except that it's
getting power through). If you're not getting any beeps, it's probably your
BIOS and you'll just have to replace the mobo (or get it reprogrammed). If
you have award/phoenix BIOS and you're getting beeps:

One long beep followed by two/three short beeps: Video card problem.
Anything else: CPU/RAM problem, probably RAM

This is that simple, because those two BIOSes try to display the error to
the screen whenever possible. Thus, our life is simplified. The only cases
the error couldn't be displayed to the screen is a CPU/RAM problem, video
card problem, or your BIOS is dead. There's my advice. Good luck.
