Dead 6600GT x 2?

I bought two Inno3D 6600GT 128Mb GDDR3 cards this week to upgrade a
couple of machines. One had an Asus A7N8X-X nForce 2 board, AGP3.0
slot, 1.5v compatible. Can't remember what the other machine had, but
the card physically fitted (the slot on the board had one notch, in the
1.5V position.)

Neither machine would POST with either 6600GT fitted. (Yes, I did
connect a PSU molex lead to the card.) On refitting the original cards,
everything worked normally. The box with the A7N8X-X is running a
GeForce Ti4600, the other is running a GeForce 2Ti.

Both machines have decent PSUs - Fortron/Sparkle FSP300s. These are
high quality 300W PSUs which are reckoned to be good for at least 350W.

I also tried both cards in a new machine with an Asus A8V board (Athlon
64 3500+.) Same symptoms - no POST at all, no error beeps.

Took the cards back to the supplier. They tested them, pronounced both
working and refused a refund, but when I asked to _see_ the cards
working, a refund was rapidly offered (and accepted.)

Does anyone else think I got two duff cards? One duff card I could
accept, but two?

Any opinions on the PNY Verto version of this card, please?

I'd be very interested to hear from anyone with an A7N8X-X running the
PNY card successfully.

Thanks for any feedback.

Some cards just don't work with some motherboards (but they will with
others). I have had this problem. I tried using a LeadTek version of an
Nvidia based card and it would not work. Other older cards worked. So I
went and bought an MSI board based on the same Nvidia chipset and it worked
just fine.

You tried them with a bigger PSU? Did you use a dedicated power line from
the psu to the card or were u splitting power with another component? Have
seen post failures on lower wattage PSUs when the card is sharing power.

ROFLMAO!! Did it ever occur to you that he was talking about 2 AGP cards
in two separate machines? A7N8X-X is an AGP only board.

Am I Batman or Superman? I'm so confused.

Still might not be enough power. My 300W PS is maxed with an A64 2800,1BG
DDR,a GeforceFX5900,one HD,one CDRW.Adding anything more causes it to freeze
solid when booting most times or freezing when drives are accessed.
Works fine as it is though.
