It seems my previous attempt to post these message didn't work, so...
here we go...

I'm looking for a decompression application that will allow me to drag
a group of compressed (zip, rar, etc.) files to its window and it will
automatically decompress them. I'd like the option at the start of
decompressing them:

.. to the same directory as the file/s;
.. to a new or existing directory; or
.. to a new directory made from the name of the file/s being
decompressed.

Any suggestions?

This is the best I can offer.
JustZIPit

JustZIPit simplifies ZIP and UnZIP compression to the bare bone!
Discarding all clunky interfaces forever, JustZIPit simply compresses
any folder into a ZIP file or decompresses any ZIP file into a folder
-- all with one click on the context menu. JustZIPit does only one
thing, does it well and does it free - exactly what most people want to
do with ZIPs. No more interface nonsense, JustZIPit and go!

Here is another way.

Most archivers I know handles these tasks through context menus. Select
your group of files, but instead of dragging and dropping you can right
click and select what to do with them.

IIRC, Unziplify will do what you want.
