DC's not replicating when in different sites

Hi,

We have one domain with a mixture of NT PDC's one Win2K DC (which was the
first installed) and 4 Windows 2003 DC's.

I created our sites as per MS documentation and created the subnets that
match each site. I moved each server into its own site. I then create the
Inter-site transport with IP. I create one call "All Sites" and copied all
sites into it.

Login scripts seem to get replicated eventually. New users don't seem to get
replicated and DC's never seem to find TS license server. There aren't any
messages in the Eventlog on any of the DC's.

If I move all DC's back into the Default_First-Site things start replicating
immediately.

I am pretty sure all DNS is set correctly (not MS DNS, IBM AS/400 DNS which
does support dynamic and SRV records) as dcdiag works ok. All site, gc,
ldap, tcp information can be seen in DNS server. And all pings respond
correctly.

I am not sure what is causing things to stop replicating.

Have I setup the sites correctly?

TIA

Nathan

No, you don't. You cannot have a Domain with a mixture of
PDCs and Win2K DC. You cannot even have a domain with
more than one "PDC" in NT 4.

You PROBABLY have a Win2000 DC acting as "PDC emulator"
with some NT BDCs.
I created our sites as per MS documentation and created the subnets that
match each site. I moved each server into its own site. I then create the

Sites are largely irrelevent to replication if you only have 1 DC (Win2k);
BDCs don't use them to control replication.
Login scripts seem to get replicated eventually.

If you wish the Logon scripts to be replicated to or from the
Win2000 DC you much (have) setup a "file replication bridge"
(which is just a scheduled batch file.)
New users don't seem to get
replicated and DC's never seem to find TS license server. There aren't any
messages in the Eventlog on any of the DC's.

Well, you might have multiple domains (with the same name) but
until you clarify I will presume you have one with BDCs.

The BDCs must FIND the PDC, which generally means you need
WINS server (set). With all machines using them in their NIC
properties (or DHCP assigned.)

If I move all DC's back into the Default_First-Site things start replicating
immediately.

Do you mean physically move them (Sites shouldn't matter for BDCs much)?

But if you move them back to the same subnet (physically) then broadcast
name resolution can substitute for your lack of WINS server(s.)
I am pretty sure all DNS is set correctly (not MS DNS, IBM AS/400 DNS which
does support dynamic and SRV records) as dcdiag works ok. All site, gc,

correctly.

It's a NetBIOS problem likely. You need WINS -- you need it
anyway probably to get Browsing to work.
I am not sure what is causing things to stop replicating.

Unless you set up that file replication bridge, I bet you don't have
startup scripts replicating completely either.
Have I setup the sites correctly?
