DCPromo Process

Having issues when DCPromo goes to register with DNS states that there is no
dns server available. netdiag shows errors with dns RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE.
KB Article states issues with SP4 and Single-Layered DNS. We are using a
third party dns server. The DNS is not single-layered. Have that vendor
engaged as well.

What I need to know. Is the DCPromo looking at the Primary DNS entry that
is set in TCP/IP Configuration or is it doing a nslookup query for the
autoritative Name Server by name. I'm suspecting its the NS or SOA record in
dns that it is looking at but need confirmation either way.

Thanks in advance for any assitance you may be able to provide.

Hello,
En sure your dns support srv records and they are in your active directory
zone. The only DNS server in TCP/IP Settings should be the server that host
your AD DNS Zone.
