DCOM error

T

Terry Pinnell

Could someone with more technical skill advise me how to go about
fixing whatever is causing this please? In Event Viewer this morning I
have scores of entries like this, with gaps ranging from less than a 1
second to several minutes:
---------
Event ID: 10005

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "
attempting to start the service StiSvc with arguments "" in order to
run the server:
{A1F4E72...... etc..... 1ED811}
---------

FWIW, I did make various alterations to my Services list yesterday,
following recommendations I studied online. Right now I see I have
both 'COM+ Event System' and 'COM+ System Application' enabled (set to
Manual). I also have 'Simple TCP/IP Services' *disabled*, as I read
that it was unnecessary for a simple solo PC with just a broadband
internet connection. Is that perhaps the likely culprit?

I'd suggest you start by putting the services you changed (all of them) back
where they were. If you don't remember then you should probably use System
Restore to roll back to when the computer was working correctly.
