I am constantly getting a DCOM ERROR with Event ID of 100005. The
descriptive error says: DCOM got error: The service cannot be started,
either because it is disabled or because it has no eanbled devices
associated with it. attempting to start the service StiSvc with agruments
in order to run the server:

Any idea what this means and what to do about it?

Thank you.

Hi,

I think you added an extra '0' by accident in the Event ID; it is Event ID
10005 (or should be). This message can safely be ignored if you like. It
is indicating the DCOM is trying to start the StiSvc. The StiSvc, by the
way, is the 'Windows Image Acquisition Service' and is disabled by default.
You should be able to correct the problem by setting the properties of the
'Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)' such that it has a Startup Type of
Manual. This setting will allow DCOM to start the service when it wants to.

You can modify this in Computer Management (right-click My Computer and
pick Manage). In the left column, open 'Services and Applications' then
click on Services below that. You'll see the list of all the services on
the right. Scroll down almost to the bottom and you will find the 'Windows
Image Acquision (WIA)' service. Double-click it to get into its
properties, then change the 'Startup type' from Disabled to Manual. Click
OK and that should be it. You can shutdown and restart at that point to
see if that did the trick.
