DCC Blues . Connection fails between XP and 2000

Attempting direct cable connection between a winxp home box and my win2000
laptop.
I get as far as being told that tcp/ip is OK but that NETBEUI has failed.
The XP host shows me logged in , but I can't see the machine from the
laptop, much less move files.
Any ideas greatly appreciated
 
how r u connecting between them ? using your
serial/parrlel ports or rj4g cross over connection? also
if NetBuei fails then you ownt be able to see anyhting on
the 2000 box form xp and vice versa even tho u may be bale
to ping them as tcp/ip may be working if netbui is
bindind to your file and print services... plz try this -

go into services - then find both the workstation and
server servcice on both pc's and check to see if any of
these servicxes have stopped on either mahcine if they
have plz restart them then it should work
